Daycare and preschool

The purpose of early childhood education services is to promote the overall growth, development, learning and well-being of children in cooperation with guardians. In terms of the child's growth and learning, early childhood education and the preschool education that is part of it form a consistently progressing entity and the basis for lifelong learning.

Early childhood education is governed by the Early Childhood Education Act, which stipulates a child's right to early childhood education. Early childhood education organizers must prepare and approve local early childhood education plans, which define, guide and support the organization of early childhood education locally.

The early childhood education plan of the municipality of Muonio has been drawn up in connection with the foundations of the early education plan approved by the Board of Education, adding local emphasis in each chapter. you can find our early childhood education plan here! (fi)

Our surrounding nature is strongly present in our everyday activities. We go outside and exercise a lot and use nature as a learning environment. This is the motto of our early childhood education: Move and play in nature! Our values are based on child-orientation, presence and a safe atmosphere, valuing the surrounding nature and its utilization, diversifying exercise and equality. The values are based on Muonio's municipal strategy, where nature, equality and happy everyday life are at the center.

The application with attachments is submitted electronically via eDaisy to the early childhood education supervisor 4 months before the estimated need for care. Notification of early childhood education times and absences

Early childhood education times are announced via the DaisyFamily application. Guardians must inform Daisy of their children's planned care times and known days off in advance as early as possible, but no later than a week before Monday at 12 p.m. Notifications/changes that come after the notification date will be taken into account as far as possible. Changes to treatment time reservations made after the aforementioned date can only be accepted if an employee/employees have been booked for the time in question and there is room in the group, taking into account the ratio between children and staff according to the Government Regulation on early childhood education 753/2018 § 1.

When your child gets sick at home, notify the child's care center via DaisyFamily or by phone. A sick or convalescing child must not be brought to the daycare- the child should be able to play outside. If the child gets sick during the day, the nurse informs the family about it. Because of the contagiousness, it is recommended that the siblings of the sick child also stay at home.

Subjective right to early childhood education

The subjective right to early childhood education was restored as of August 1, 2020. All children have the right to participate in early childhood education according to the child's needs. The right to early childhood education does not depend on whether the child's parent or other guardian is employed full-time or part-time, whether they are unemployed or whether they participate in training or internships organized as labor policy measures, or whether the parents are entrepreneurs or are studying. The extent of early childhood education is also not affected by whether the child's parent is on family leave or care leave to care for another child in the family.
