Instructions for customers when dealing with a veterinarian

Instructions for customers when dealing with a veterinarian

19.3.2020 Veterinarian services in all the municipalities of the environmental health care cooperation area of Finnish Lapland (Kittilä, Enontekiö, Muonio, Sodankylä) continue almost as normal. However, we ask customers to note the following:

  •     if you are sick, ask someone else to bring the animal to the reception
  •     wash your hands when you enter the reception waiting area. Hand sanitizer is also available, use it when you come and go
  •     keep a sufficient distance from the veterinarian
  •     come to the reception alone, do not bring extra people with you
  •     if you have been abroad recently, ask someone else to bring the animal to the reception

Urgent patient cases are handled regardless of the situation, but we may have to postpone appointments for demanding procedures. If the staff gets sick, we have to cut back on non-urgent patient work and then focus only on urgent and on-call work.

Outi Romakkaniemi, environmental health manager

Muonio works together with the municipalities of Enontekiö, Kittilä and Sodankylä as the operational area for environmental health care in Fell Lapland.

The task of environmental health care is to maintain and promote the health of the population through various measures aimed at the living environment. The basic issues of environmental health care include e.g. good quality drinking water and food and a healthy and safe living environment.

Environmental health care is responsible for food control, environmental hygiene control, control of compliance with the tobacco law, control of the retail sale of nicotine products, and veterinary care and animal protection.

In addition, the duties include advising and guiding operators covered by the legislation, as well as municipal and cooperation authorities.

The area currently has an environmental health manager, 6 veterinarians and 3 health inspectors.
